2008 PACS 4th Annual Community Resources Fair
On Saturday October 18, the Newton Recreation Centre was home to the 4th
Annual Community Resources Fair. This year, Peace Arch Community
Services PACS collaborated with the Canadian Mental Health Association
who provided their Depression/Anxiety screenings as part of Mental
Health week.
Hundreds of children, adults and seniors viewed the 50 exhibits of
social, community and health related services available to the people of
Surrey and White Rock.
BBQ hot dogs, hamburgers and snacks were provided by the newly formed
South Surrey Kiwanis Club, Jennifer Caldwell air brushed temporary
tattoos, Lyn Dovale twisted balloon art, and music was provided by
members of the White Rock Blues Society.
The first 200 attendees received goodie bags compliments of the Medicine
Shoppe.
'This is the fourth year for the fair, and every year it gets better',
said Fair Coordinator Victoria Clements. 'To have all of these community
resources in one place at one time for the public to learn about the
services in their community that are readily available to them to assist
them is really wonderful to see. Given that approximately 1,000 people a
month move into the Surrey area, the fair is an excellent opportunity to
learn about what local services and resources are available.'
Left to Right: Dignitaries, MLA Harry Bains, Natasha Westover from MLA Kevin Falcon's Office, MLA David Hayer, PACS Executive Director David Young, in front, MLA Sue Hammel, Surrey Councilors Marvin Hunt and Mary Martin, MP Sukh Dhaliwal and MLA Jagrup Brar at the Resource Fair (Missing: Cloverdale and District Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bill Reid, City of White Rock Mayor Judy Forster and Councillor Mary-Wade Anderson)
Representatives from the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments
greeted the public at noon and spoke of the importance of community and
helping those in need. Peace Arch Community Services Executive Director
David Young acted as Master of Ceremonies. 'Peace Arch Community
Services is proud to once again host this important community event', he
said. 'This is just one more way that we can serve the people of Surrey
and White Rock as we have for the past 30 years'.
The fair was, as always, free to the public and a Resource Guide was
produced containing information on all of the exhibitors For a free copy
of the Resource Guide, please contact Peace Arch Community Services at 604-531-6226
